5 Amazon must-haves for photographers
✨5 items from Amazon that make our lives easier as photographers✨
1. LED panel lights
These bad boys are a lifesaver during dark receptions and dimly lit dance floors. We also use them during send-offs to back light the couple. If you’ve got an adventurous couple, they also work well for creative night portraits. The batteries are sold separately (we purchased 4 in total), but they also come with a power cord in case you are able to plug them in to an outlet. You can control the white balance which is super helpful in venues with warm tints to them. They come in a handy-dandy carrying bag that fits the panels, the stands, cords, and batteries.
2. SD card holder
I’m not sure what everyone else’s procedure is for backups and original files, but we hold on to the RAWs on the SD cards until after we deliver their gallery. If you shoot as often (or overshoot) as much as we do, then you’re likely drowning in SD cards. This case helps keep our SD cards safe and organized until we are ready to clear them. We use tiny post-it stickers (the page tabs) with a Sharpie Pen to label each card.
3. External hard drive pouch
I honestly don’t even know how we lived without these. We’ve all been there— in the middle of editing, you’re eyeballs deep in a gallery and you move your laptop off your lap, just for the dreaded pop-up on your screen. “DISCONNECTED”. Your hard drive comes unplugged and your life flashes before your eyes. This is the cheapest and most basic way to keep this from happening. These pouches have a sticky 3M back. You peel and stick them to the back of your laptop, but make sure there’s not too much cord or that the cord isn’t stretched too tightly.
4. Fireproof bag
Peace of mind is priceless, right? We keep our SD card case and extra hard drives in this fireproof bag. It gives us a slight peace of mind in the horrific incident of (God-forbid) a fire, water damage, and keeps important items together in case of unpredictable weather—like a tornado. If you add any paper or documents, add an extra layer of protection with Ziploc bags.
5. SD/iPhone adapter
Love impressing your couple with fantastic sneak peeks? Who doesn’t! This little tool will help you upload a few photos to your phone or iPad before you even get home the night of the wedding. If you have the mobile Lightroom app, you can pop on a few quick presets to use in stories or to send to your couple for that night-of-the-wedding profile picture update!
We seriously couldn’t live without these things and we hope this list is helpful for you too!
