Should I Hire a Videographer?

10 reasons why you should hire a videographer

Why would we want a video?

The famous question. We get it. How often are you actually going to watch it?

We are a husband and wife Dallas Wedding photographer + videographer and we’ve broken it down into ten reasons why you should hire a wedding videographer.

Photos and videos are the only tangible way to keep those memories.

Everything else fades with time— the venue, floral arrangements, the music, the laughter, the dancing, the crying, and sometimes, even the people. You don’t get to take it all with you when you run through the sparkler exit at the end of the night.

So why do we spend so much on our weddings— just on a single day? Why would I need to spend any more on a video?

Here are 10 reasons why you should hire a videographer for your wedding:

  1. Tangibility—

In today’s time, print has become a lost trade. People might print a few photos to hang on the wall, but what else do they do to display their wedding? Usually, they either post them to social media or store them on their computer. Consider your video a family heirloom— a physical copy of your memories, moments, and voices. In the grand scheme of things, there are truly only three things you take away from your wedding day: Your rings, your photos, and your video.

  2. Memories in motion—

We use this phrase often, because it is so true! Photos are priceless, but video is literally bringing those photos and moment back to life on your screen. A moment frozen in time leaves room for the imagination and for the memory, but seeing it play out over and over again at the tip of your fingers? That is invaluable.

  3. Spoken Word—

Imagine hearing your husband speak his vows over 30 years later. Or maybe hearing your grandpa officiate the ceremony years after he remembers who you are. Those are sweet sounds you’ll covet in the years to come.

  4. Hard Days—

The day will come when your spouse is driving you crazy. Maybe you can’t imagine that day at this moment, but when it comes just imagine leaving and hiding out in the other room to cool down. You pull out your phone and scroll years back to your video. You watch in private, hear your spouse declare their love and promises, and all of the sudden you remember all the reasons why to walk back out there and embrace them in an overdue hug.

  5. Snapshot in time—

Remember when your mother of grandmother pulled out their wedding album or video for the first time and you thought… “What in the world is she wearing?!” Believe it or not, whatever you wear will go out of style at some point. Years later, you’ll get to pull out your own video and embarrass your children with 2022/2023 trends.

  6. Older family members—

This is the part that no one wants to talk about. The reality is that you will likely outlive your older family members. There is absolutely nothing worse than wishing you had more photos or videos with your loved ones. When we book video clients, we make sure to ask about any special relationships and interactions our couple wants us to focus on.

  7. The wedding day will fly by—

It passes by so quickly. Everyone tells you this, but trust us when we tell you, it is hard to be present. There are so many people you haven’t seen in ages, all your cousins are together for the first time since childhood, and you feel torn between hugging everyone’s neck and living it up on the dance floor. Don’t stretch yourself thin trying to see everything and be everywhere. Be present in the moment and feel confident that your videographer will capture the rest.

  8. Not everyone can be there—

We’ve now lived through a pandemic. We all know how awful it is to not be able to travel freely. One way to guarantee that no one misses your big day, is to have a video to show off the entirety of it!

  9. See yourself—

Imagine seeing your wedding day through the eyes of your friends and family. It is one thing to be present in the moment, but to watch your own joy and smiles from a viewer’s perspective— now that is special.

  10. Just a quick glimpse—

Remember, these videos are not hour-long sagas, they’re strategic glimpses of the moments and interactions that happened. We use the words “highlight” and “feature” for a reason! It features the best moments and highlights the in between. The only “straight through” videos that we offer are ceremony videos, which usually don’t exceed 30 minutes.

Of course we want you to book us for video, but just know that when you choose to trust us with your video, those memories become our utmost priority. We know that our own wedding day memories will fade, and if the investment in our own wedding video ever helps us to get through a difficult day with each other, it was worth it. One day, when our older family members are gone and we tell our children about our wedding day, having memories in motion will be absolutely invaluable.
